Review- Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector Kit- AKA:Why I was forced to get a Pixie Cut.

So lets start this review off with a little background. I dye my hair, and I'm usually okay with cutting it if it gets to damaged to keep. It's just hair, it grows back. I know that attitude is not shared by to many people, women especially! My hair is slightly curly and can get a little frizzy. I asked a friend who had REALLY curly hair what she used to tame her frizz and the Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector Kit was her answer. Let me tell you that on her hair it works wonders! She does not dye her hair though and that probably should have given me some pause, but the box says its fine for color treated hair.

So on the recomendation of a really good friend I run out and buy a box. This kit will run you around $15, not bad considering it is being talked about like its an at home brazillian blow out($180-$400 depending on where you go and how long your hair is.). I read though the instructions, and thought I was safe. It had been more than two weeks since I had colored my hair, my hair felt pretty healthy I had waited to wash it for two days so it was just a little dirty. Ready to go! I pulled out the instructions and read over them, nothing to special. Follow steps 1-4 and you should be fine!

Not so much.

The instructions warn that the prodcut has a "strong smell". This is an understatement. It smells like rotting garbage and eggs. I was gagging while I put it on, and then it has to sit for 20 minutes. Well..I didn't make it all 20. I had to stop at 15 because I just couldn't take it. While I was rinsing step 1 out of my hair I noticed that it was feeling more course that usual. I assumed that it was because I was inbetween steps and the second product would fix it.

While I was towel drying my hair, it didn't seem to get any better. When I pulled the towel away, I started to panic. I had a fro! Still, I was inbetween steps and I decided to go ahead and finish the last step. The second part of the kit is a blow dry heat activated cream. I put it in my hands to work it though my hair and was at first excited, because it smelled MUCH better than the first part. Then as I started to work it in my hands I realised it felt really greasy and almost gritty. Still I pushed on and started TRYING to work it though my poor hair. My hair was so kinky and corse that I could not work my fingers though it. That has NEVER happend before...Not with bleaching, coloring, weaving, extensions...nothing. I re-read the bottle and saw heat activated...lets try putting a blow dryer on this...maybe there is still a way to save my hair. Unfortunatly...no.

Now is where I hopped right up and ran to the salon down the road. For anyone who knows me, you know I usually cut my own hair, so going to a salon for me ment a huge deal. When I got there, I was lucky that Melody(who I do go to see occasionally when I need something difficult or drastic) was free. She told me in 20 years of hair dressing she had not seen someones hair that fried and from only one product! We tried a deep conditioner to save it, but sadly it had to all go.

I'm lucky that I knew what a pixie cut would be like. I've had one before and I liked it alright. It's not my first choice, but I'll deal. I cannot imagine what someone who is picky about their hair would do in this situation. When all was said and done I had about an Inch of hair all over my head.

MY FINAL REVIEW
If you have colored your hair...ever. Do not use this product. You will end up with poodle hair on your head and no way to fix it but chop it off. I didn't even use it for the full amount of time. Apparently it works wonders on virgin hair, but for everyone else its band news bears.

Riiiiiight

Remember that one time that I said I was going to keep my blog updated? Remember how that didn't happen? Well I've made myself a new years resolution to update this blog at least once a week. I put it on my calender and everything and my phone will yell at me if I dont :D

So..after this post tomorrow we will have a post shower before and after of my Pixie/Mullet cut in all its GLORY and then what it looks like when I try and trim it.

I would like to do an indepth blog about color choices for your hair and why blond is obviously not the right color for anyone. That probably will not happen, but you might get some bitching about why my hair never goes red when I dye it.

I would also like to do some fun everyday makeup tutorials. Maybe video..probably picture. We will see.

Also..I have some prodcut reviews that I hope will be up soon. They are saved on my desktop...the just need final editing.

I feel like such a Lazy Ass.

eeek...Its been a little while.

DUDE...It's been forever.

I have alot to talk about. Mostly about why I chopped off all of my hair...but I think I'm going to make a vlog about it. I've started a new job and I will have alot more time to be able to update this thing :) YAY

I learn....

So....I learned that I don't know how to save videos taken with my laptops built in camera. I will figure that out, or I will move to the hard camera that I have upstairs. The lighting sucks up there though, so lets hope I figure out how to use the one in my laptop.

I have 3 product reviews to post tonight and tomorrow so those will be going up ASAP. Two hair and one makeup item.

Unique Vintage is having some awesome sales this week. I've gotten a few items from them, my favorite being a full lenght hot red petticoat.

I will be dying my hair tonight too, so photos to come :) I also have a zebra eye makeup tutorial coming because a friend asked me how to do it.

This week is going to be CRAZY at work so If I do post they will probably be short and sweet, but I will try and get at least a few posts done this week.

...Sooooo Blond is a mistake..I think.

I know I promised reviews and makeup tutorials..I fail :(. I've been crazy busy with work..but I do have some product reviews I'm in the process of writing. It's the finishing that is dragging me down.

Blond was a fail as well. Pink and black is coming up, lets hope that works better :)

I will be posting a video tutorial for a quick face and then one for some super strawberry shortcake inspired eyes (I've been working on them for HALLOWEEN! So excited).

I'm in the countdown to October! I'm taking an awesome vacation to Disney World, and of course Halloween. I will try and do a video tutorial for Halloween makeup at least once a week till we hit it. Maybe a Vamp..a zombie..that kinda thing.

I'm pretty sure no one reads this but it's important to me to actually update once and awhile and stick to what I say.

So...that's all for now.

B-B-B-B-Blond....Pt. 1

Sooooo...now I'm a blond not so blond bombshell..sorta. Now that I'm going blond I fell like I might not cut my hair...I really like the cut I have now with the blond.

Lets start with my super awesome and not ghetto tools.

I used Manic Panic FlashLightening "AMPLIFIED" 40 volume bleach kit. I know.....super ghetto...but cheap. Lets face it, I'm a broke ass bitch...and I get a discount at Hot Topic. Normally I would not use a 40 volume developer, I think they are too harsh, and it is much easier to fry your hair with them. In this case, I didn't have a choice. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, my hair is still soft and not overly fried...yet. I'm only on my first bleach.

Next in my arsenal of not ghetto and way awesome tools is Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. Purchased for $2.50 at my local CVS, this deep conditioner is a find! Used once or twice a week it definitely makes a HUGE difference to bleached or processed hair. It is my go too cheap treatment when I fry my poor hair.

Now..the pictures.

Not sure how well it shows up on these pictures, but my hair was black at the tips with red at the root. Tricky to lift. My hair is a natural dark brown. Please excuse my no makeup face :)

I didn't take pictures of my bleach process because I wasn't wearing to much clothing at the time. Bleach ruins clothes and I will ALWAYS spill some on myself. This time I got my leg.

I started out with my bangs because that is what everyone will see first. Then worked my way to the right, then left side of my face. Finishing with the back I left the bottom of my hair dark. I covered the top of my hair with a shower cap(included in the kit) and then blasted it with my hair dryer on its hottest setting.

Then the waiting.......

........

and waiting.........

.......

and more waiting........

Till 1 hour went by. That's right, I let it sit on my hair for an hour. I have hair that can take this because it is thick and coarse. If you have fine hair I would not recommend this because it will FRY. About every 15 minutes I went in and hit it with my hair dryer again. The heat helps the bleach work, and will help for maximum color lifting. Let me tell you this shit BURNED! I was so glad to get it off my head at the end of the hour, and I was sure I would have blisters. I didn't, so I might be a drama queen but OUCH!

Once I rinsed it, I let my hair soak up my Aussie deep conditioner for about 10 minutes. I know it says 3 on the bottle but after this kind of treatment your hair needs a serious drink of water.

Now to blow drying. I used it on my lowest heat setting and did small sections at a time.  This is the scary part and why you need TWO bleachings if your going from dark to light.

I actually kinda like it...I look like a strawberry shortcake acid trip :)

And the back.

You can see, its still shiny and its actually still pretty soft. After my second bleach( maybe tomorrow, maybe next week. I want to see how long my hair wants to breath before I hit it again) I'm hoping it will be a light blond...I'd be happy with a lighter version with this. I will need a trim at the end regardless but I'm not sure if I want to completely shave it off just yet :)

Long time No Post

So...I haven't done anything retro lately so I haven't posted anything. Sad Day. Tomorrow I will be posting up some pictures of me in the process of going blond and the method I use. I will be snipping off all of my hair into a faux hawk. I'm super excited!
I will also be trying out some home made deep conditioner recipes. I'm poor and I will need it with all the bleach I'm tossing into my hair. The most common ingredients are Honey, Mayo and Avocado. I'm fresh out of Avocado, but I'll try a few with the other two and we'll post up some Video tutorials on how to make and use them.

I've got the urge to paint some shoes. I will be trying to bust this project out asap.
