Review- Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector Kit- AKA:Why I was forced to get a Pixie Cut.

So lets start this review off with a little background. I dye my hair, and I'm usually okay with cutting it if it gets to damaged to keep. It's just hair, it grows back. I know that attitude is not shared by to many people, women especially! My hair is slightly curly and can get a little frizzy. I asked a friend who had REALLY curly hair what she used to tame her frizz and the Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector Kit was her answer. Let me tell you that on her hair it works wonders! She does not dye her hair though and that probably should have given me some pause, but the box says its fine for color treated hair.

So on the recomendation of a really good friend I run out and buy a box. This kit will run you around $15, not bad considering it is being talked about like its an at home brazillian blow out($180-$400 depending on where you go and how long your hair is.). I read though the instructions, and thought I was safe. It had been more than two weeks since I had colored my hair, my hair felt pretty healthy I had waited to wash it for two days so it was just a little dirty. Ready to go! I pulled out the instructions and read over them, nothing to special. Follow steps 1-4 and you should be fine!

Not so much.

The instructions warn that the prodcut has a "strong smell". This is an understatement. It smells like rotting garbage and eggs. I was gagging while I put it on, and then it has to sit for 20 minutes. Well..I didn't make it all 20. I had to stop at 15 because I just couldn't take it. While I was rinsing step 1 out of my hair I noticed that it was feeling more course that usual. I assumed that it was because I was inbetween steps and the second product would fix it.

While I was towel drying my hair, it didn't seem to get any better. When I pulled the towel away, I started to panic. I had a fro! Still, I was inbetween steps and I decided to go ahead and finish the last step. The second part of the kit is a blow dry heat activated cream. I put it in my hands to work it though my hair and was at first excited, because it smelled MUCH better than the first part. Then as I started to work it in my hands I realised it felt really greasy and almost gritty. Still I pushed on and started TRYING to work it though my poor hair. My hair was so kinky and corse that I could not work my fingers though it. That has NEVER happend before...Not with bleaching, coloring, weaving, extensions...nothing. I re-read the bottle and saw heat activated...lets try putting a blow dryer on this...maybe there is still a way to save my hair. Unfortunatly...no.

Now is where I hopped right up and ran to the salon down the road. For anyone who knows me, you know I usually cut my own hair, so going to a salon for me ment a huge deal. When I got there, I was lucky that Melody(who I do go to see occasionally when I need something difficult or drastic) was free. She told me in 20 years of hair dressing she had not seen someones hair that fried and from only one product! We tried a deep conditioner to save it, but sadly it had to all go.

I'm lucky that I knew what a pixie cut would be like. I've had one before and I liked it alright. It's not my first choice, but I'll deal. I cannot imagine what someone who is picky about their hair would do in this situation. When all was said and done I had about an Inch of hair all over my head.

MY FINAL REVIEW
If you have colored your hair...ever. Do not use this product. You will end up with poodle hair on your head and no way to fix it but chop it off. I didn't even use it for the full amount of time. Apparently it works wonders on virgin hair, but for everyone else its band news bears.

Riiiiiight

Remember that one time that I said I was going to keep my blog updated? Remember how that didn't happen? Well I've made myself a new years resolution to update this blog at least once a week. I put it on my calender and everything and my phone will yell at me if I dont :D

So..after this post tomorrow we will have a post shower before and after of my Pixie/Mullet cut in all its GLORY and then what it looks like when I try and trim it.

I would like to do an indepth blog about color choices for your hair and why blond is obviously not the right color for anyone. That probably will not happen, but you might get some bitching about why my hair never goes red when I dye it.

I would also like to do some fun everyday makeup tutorials. Maybe video..probably picture. We will see.

Also..I have some prodcut reviews that I hope will be up soon. They are saved on my desktop...the just need final editing.

I feel like such a Lazy Ass.
